Education
I am a junior major in English Language Arts and Reading and minor in Gender Studies at the University of Houston. I am also earning my certification to teach 7-12 English and planning on furthering my education. I regularly edit the papers of my colleagues. I love helping people grow their writing and working with students to create learning strategies to ensure academic success.
Experience
I have been tutoring since 2008 and I am currently in university to earn my certification to teach 7 - 12. I'm an English major with a minor in Women's Studies. I have worked with grades 4 - 12 and regularly mentor college students and other writers. I also intern inside high school English classrooms. My specialties are literary analysis, poetry, writing (expository and creative), and reading comprehension. I am excellent at refining the writing skills of my students. I have studied a wide variety of literature and am able to help with any questions or challenges you may have. These requests can include, but are not limited to, texts such as British literature (including Shakespeare and Chaucer), early and modern American literature, and Minority literature. I love teaching, but most of all I love seeing a student grow into their potential. I am also able to conduct Flynt-Cooter Comprehensive Reading Assessments to track student progress and pinpoint strengths and areas for growth.

Hobbies
In my free time, I'm a writer for a popular humor website and I'm in the midst of writing a novel. I love to travel and my biggest dream is to move to New Orleans and write in the place that was once home to artists like Kate Chopin, Anne Rice, and William Faulkner. I have four pet ducks and two dogs that I absolutely adore to bits. After graduation, I would like to participate in Teach for America and earn my Ph.D. in literature and B.A. in Anthropology. I am currently working towards my goal of becoming a Professor of Literature so that I may participate in research on folk tales and writing of the southern United States and the Chicana Feminist Movement.I also love art! I was once and award-winning sketch artist and watercolorist with a focus in naturalism and surrealism. I make a point to visit as many museums and galleries as possible when I visit a new city. So far my favorites have been the A Gallery in New Orleans and, of course, the Louvre.
