Tutoring Experience: I worked for the General Honors Community at my university as a writing tutor for several students and an art history aide for a sight-impaired student. I got to spend my summers working for Freer-Sackler Smithsonian Galleries in DC, assisting with their kids education programs, and since school have taught summer ceramics classes at Northern Clay Center in Minneapolis as well. I also currently volunteer in a probation program mentoring and assisting middle and high schoolers. SAT: Critical Reading - 770, Math - 580, Writing - 730. Why I Tutor: Growing up, my sisters and I used to battle to see who could find a vocabulary word to stump our dad (who was an English teacher). I love learning and I enjoy helping other people have that kind of experience: where schoolwork is about engaging and building your own mind, where tutor and student get to explore subjects and build confidence instead of feeling locked down in an institutional environment. As for my interests. . . I'm a potter! I spend my days in my studio in 5th Ward where I run my growing ceramics company. I make special commissions for restaurants, coffee shops, and private homes: you can eat off my plates at Oxheart, for example, or drink espresso from my demitasse cups at Greenway Plaza. Managing the business and art aspects of all that takes up plenty of time, but I also love to: hang out with my Rez Houston family and my 1 year old niece Zaria, get better at running (2nd half marathon on Feb 14th!) and find ways to be outside, even in Houston!
