Hi there! I graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a B.S. in Communication Studies and a B.A. in Asian Languages and Cultures, concentration in Chinese Mandarin. I am currently tutoring beginners Chinese with elementary and middle school students. My method is to get to know the students and understand what motivates them to learn and use that as a tool to increase their desire to learn Chinese. I believe that as long as there is a motivation and desire to learn, students are able to learn absorb the information quickly. A parent who homeschools his children told me that his daughters "voted you as their favorite teacher. They have many teachers and love all their teachers, so this means a lot. I don't know what you're doing, but it's working." Please feel free to inquire about references. I would be glad to refer you to the parents I am currently working with. I'm able to understand students' motivations to learn, which I think is paramount to learning anything. Without motivation or desire, anything that is taught will be futile, because the students won't retain anything. I also believe that being genuine and connecting with kids is important, because they also need to know that you care. Children are very perceptive! I look forward to speaking with you!
