Experience
Born and raised in Houston, Texas, I am a Columbia University graduate with a U.S. regional studies degree. While I studied in New York, I taught pre-K and second grade at KIPP Infinity, a charter in Harlem with Waldorf School-certified teachers. Much of my teaching has been done under the Common Core requirements. As an instructor, my top subjects are psychology, English, early childhood education, sociology, and test prep. My teaching philosophy highlights the value of student-led questioning, the use of music, and exploration. At the end of each lesson, I have my students demonstrate their newly gained knowledge using various activities. Using the right explanation and teaching method for each student is necessary to encourage their learning. I factor in the student's learning style and aptitude of the subject, whether we are preparing for the SSAT or working on a complex concept in IB global politics. I work with students to improve their ability to speak English, improve their essay editing skills, and boost their confidence in their public speaking course. My end goal is to provide the skills needed to succeed in academia. Outside of tutoring, I am a political blogger with a love for Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and dancing.
