Experience

I started in the education field by tutoring for 14 months at Community Family Centers and moving on to serve as the Youth Education Coordinator. I have aided in essay editing, college prep, career prep, and professional skills coaching as a Program Coordinator at Genesys Works for two years, and am now beginning my career as a College Counselor at KIPP Houston High School. Working with young individuals is extremely important to me because I feel helping students improve their writing skills or knowledge of cultural studies is my way of decreasing the education gap that exists.

Hobbies

I love to participate in dance, writing, photography, and other visual/performing arts in my spare time. I spent four years at the University of St. Thomas where I studied Communication and minored in Photography. At UST, I was able to participate in two campus student newspapers as a Contributor and Co-Photography Editor. I also studied photography for all four years through the partnership of the Glassell School of Art. At the University of Houston- Clear Lake I continued my studies in Anthropology, Sociology, Psychology, and other human sciences during my time in the Cross-Cultural Studies program. During my undergrad and graduate studies I was in two abroad programs, Mary Immaculate College in Limerick, Ireland and The University of the West Indies in Kingston, Jamaica. Working with young individuals has been a focus and passion in my work for the past 5 years with various non-profit organizations and elementary, junior, and high schools both in and outside of HISD.
