Experience

Teaching is my passion, and I've been working on my PhD to become a professor in economics. Unfortunately I can't continue onto my dissertation due to personal circumstances. Nevertheless I still would like to teach students and help them gain confidence, succeed in their studies, secure a bright future and build exemplary character. I've tutored undergraduate students in beginners through advanced levels of micro and macro economics. Key feedback is that I explain technical concepts in simple terms that can easily be understood. It's a light bulb moment for students who feel so confused and overwhelmed with the material and professor's fast pace. This component of tutoring is essential due to the complex terminologies used and the heavy mathematical theory that economics is built upon. Not to fret, the material is really intuitive and I enjoy helping student realize this. My education spans 8 years of economics and mathematics coursework, giving me a well-rounded knowledge base in these two fields. I'm also multilingual (native: Arabic, English and German; proficient: Spanish) and was raised between Kuwait, Austria and the U.S. under a variety of educational systems (British, American AP, German Matura, International IB). Students from different backgrounds can easily relate to me, which has allowed me to become proficient in language mechanics, grammar and literary analysis. I've tutored high school classmates in English, working on compositions, structuring essays and analyzing reading assignments for class. Books and stories are so much fun, interpreting them opens up a world of creativity. Students really find it enjoyable once they can relate to the story and empathize with characters.

Hobbies

I'm an economics, arts and design enthusiast, subscribing to Architectural Digest and the Economist. I enjoy keeping up with current events and international affairs daily. My brain constantly races with analysis on public policies and business stock market activities--in particular where they're leading the economy. One of my TV favorites is Shark Tank, where entrepreneurs pitch their business ventures to shark investors. Guests present everything from innovative cupcake recipes to home security technology ventures, which really opens up one's imagination to savy entrepreneurial ideas. During my free time I refinish furniture, sketch, paint, and care for my plants. Living in Austria cultivated my appreciation for arts and nature. After getting married last year, my husband got me into a fit lifestyle. Together we enjoy running at Hermann Park, working out 4 times a week and cooking healthy meals. Having a mediterranean background has heavily influenced my cooking style. I also love reading history, psychology and science fiction books during my spare time. Tipping Point and Game of Thrones are my favorites. Volunteering is close to my heart. In high school I was part of the National Honor Society and the president of a student mentoring program that I co-designed. Later in college I volunteered at a Down Syndrome Center for children and participated in hosting events such as park activities, book drives, bake sales for charity and clean ups. As grad student I found it hard to manage my time (as I got married and became consumed with PhD examinations). Now I'm looking to go back to volunteer work, mentoring children of relocating refugees and teaching ESL. I always feel the obligation to give back to my community, it builds great character and values.
