Experience

As an undergraduate, I worked as an AVID tutor at a middle school where I facilitated tutoring and offered brief tutoring sessions over all subject areas for 7th-9th grade. When I became a certified 8-12 English teacher I started teaching 9th grade English in an integrated class with World Geography where I had many opportunities to tutor learners in small groups, large groups, and one-on-one. Finally, I have experience as a peer-tutor at the undergraduate and graduate level in English at my university. I love tutoring and motivating others to love education! I also feel like my tutees and students teach me just as much as I teach them. I also love people and want to connect with those that I teach and/or tutor. Some of the most relevant classes that I have taken (outside of AVID training) were Composition and Rhetoric and Writing Center practices. Both of those classes were at the graduate level and really helped me to understand the history and best-practices involved in teaching writing. In addition, I have taken some fantastic literature classes that had emphases in close-reading, supporting written responses with text evidence, and writing workshops.
