Experience

~11+ years of 1-on-1 tutoring experience in computer science (especially Java and AP), mathematics, SAT mathematics, creative and expository writing, film and media ~group tutoring experience in math tutoring center (Mathnasium) ~experience tutoring kindergarten through college ~various grants and awards to produce professional-style short films I graduated in 2014 from Johns Hopkins University with bachelor's degrees in Computer Science and Film & Media Studies with extensive course work in creative writing. I have 11+ years of 1-on-1 tutoring experience in computer science (Java), mathematics, creative and expository writing, film and media as well as group tutoring experience in a math tutoring center. Additionally, I have helped prepare students for major tests including final exams, advanced placement (AP), ACT, SAT, and SAT 2 Math with proven results. I have worked with students ranging from kindergarten through college and have enjoyed adapting my lessons for any age. My goal is to identify each student's learning style in order to make lessons more memorable and enjoyable. I offer a first trial lesson free of charge to help the student get a feel of my teaching style and to give me the opportunity to learn more about the student (learning style, current understanding of subject, etc). As often as possible, I find ways to relate concepts to everyday life to help students see how the material they're learning can be applied beyond the classroom. I find one-on-one tutoring has an advantage over classroom settings, because I am able to adapt material for the individual. This personalized approach helps my students fill gaps in their learning and get ahead to more advanced material, which leads to a deeper level of understanding. I hope that by continuing to tutor someone with computer science, math, and writing I will also continue to keep my skills sharp, while also sharing my love for the material and helping students learn. I think two of the greatest advantages to working with me over other tutors is my approachability and diverse interests. Many parents have commented that my age, ability to relate with students of all ages and interests, friendly demeanor, and patience has helped create a comfortable and encouraging learning environment to help students succeed. In addition to computer science, math, and writing tutoring, I can also offer tutoring in photography/videography, including but not limited to cinematography, editing, screenwriting, and producing. Competencies include the Adobe creative suite (especially Photoshop and Premiere), Final Cut, and the Mac creative tools (iMovie, Garage Band, etc). Please don't hesitate to contact me with any questions. I look forward to working with you!
