Experience
I truly believe that a fantastic teacher can listen well and really understand a student's motivation. In my opinion, we as teachers aren't questioning our students enough. Everyone is special and has their own way of learning and acquiring knowledge. That's why it's so important to determine how a student sees their own academic challenges. That way, we can really provide information that can help them to learn better. I think my job is to help my students become better at learning overall, not just the particular topic they need to learn at any given moment. The teachers that I remember most from my own childhood were ones who always kept pushing me forward so I had a healthy belief in my own abilities. I seek to do that for my students by watching and taking note of what their individual challenges are so that I can adjust my own tutoring style and zero in on those challenges. Then we can begin work. However, I also reinforce what the student already does well.My instincts, communication skills, active listening skills, and my natural ability to teach others are just some of the things that make me a great tutor.I will take care to challenge the students I tutor, so that they can feel confident about their ability to handle any challenge. This will no doubt manifest as significant, quantifiable educational growth.
