Private tutor in Houston, TX
UTSA - BA, History , University of Houston - PhD, History
I am a tutor with an extensive background in a variety of different subjects. I attended the University of Texas, San Antonio and the University of Houston. I am comfortable tutoring students in a wide range of subject areas, including American history, grammar and mechanics, geography, social studies, and English. I am also available to help students prepare for standardized tests, including the GMAT, the GRE, and the SAT. My philosophy as a tutor emphasizes hard work, discipline, and a positive attitude. The world can be quite difficult. However, I believe that with those three principles it is possible to overcome anything the world happens to throw at you. While I am a firm believer in hard work and discipline, I also understand the value of having fun. My goal as a tutor is to create an atmosphere that helps students feel comfortable. This allows students to take risks. I feel like students learn best when they take risks, even if they wind up failing. An example of this is the process of writing. I want my students to write whatever they feel like writing because this helps them create a sense of ownership. When students own their writing, they become invested in it and want to succeed. Once a student writes what they want, it is my job to edit it for them and help them work on it until it is correct.
