Experience
I tutor the Natural Sciences, focusing largely on Biology, Genetics, Meteorology, Astronomy, Biochemistry, Earth Science, Physical Science, and Nutrition. I earned a bachelor's degree in Molecular Biology and Microbiology at Portland State University. While at Portland State, I tutored other university students in the Natural Sciences and also belonged to student organizations focused on mentoring and tutoring at the high school level. These experiences allowed me to develop my own tutoring style. I found that it's best to start by making sure that the students understand the core concepts. After that, it's possible to start building more advanced knowledge. If those core concepts aren't in place, however, nothing that follows will make sense.Having dealt with the knowledge base, the important next step is to look at study habits. If the study habits are the problem, then it's a question of layering study skills on top of the knowledge issue. If the problem isn't study habits, then it is necessary to get to know the student and build a rapport in order to discover the issue. Step by step, I am able to help any student overcome their academic issues. When I have some time to myself, I like to practice the guitar, exercise, cook, and watch sports.
