Experience
I get great joy out of helping my students succeed. I help my students with college essays and scholarship applications. With my help, 15 of my students have become Gates scholars and others have earned POSSE (pre-collegiate training program). I teach AP Language and AP Literature; a high school English teacher who loves reading, literature, and rhetoric. I have taught high school for a total of twelve years in the cities of Atlanta and Houston. I was a Yale National Teaching Fellow in 2006 and 2008. This year I was teacher of the year. I am incredibly dedicated to my students and their academic and personal success. Sometimes I use inventive approaches to get students engaged (dancing and singing) yet my classes are interesting and when they leave my class my students are prepared for the world of higher education. Students have deemed me overly enthusiastic about literary research papers and I am guilty as charged. I graduated from the University of New Mexico with a B.A. in English Literature. At the graduate level I studied English Education and earned a M.Ed. from Georgia State University. I am a certified special education, gifted, ESL, and English teacher. I enjoy volunteering, knitting, exercising, theatre (Shakespeare most of all), and the movies.
