I'm attending Concordia University for my Master of education and with a specialty in reading and literacy. As a tutor, I understand that one type of teaching does not work for every student. I need to first understand what the student's needs are and how they learn, and then I can create a lesson plan to teach to those needs. I've taught for 20 years in Texas public schools. I'm also a veteran, having spent six years in the National Guard as a medic. I can tutor students in literature, reading, English grammar and syntax, phonics, comparative literature, and English through the college level. I can also help students learn math and writing. I consider the opportunity to teach others an honor. It's rewarding to be able to help people by providing gifts of learning, literacy, and learning skills. I believe education and the knowledge it provides are powerful tools people can use throughout their careers and lives. When I work with students, my goal is to help them bring out their innate learning ability so they can become self-sufficient. When I have some free time, I like to tend my garden, take walks, and spend time with my dog.
