Experience
I am a Dean of Students at YES Prep Northbrook High School and author of "Restorative Justice in Urban Schools." I have worked in public schools for 13 years and have a doctorate in education from Harvard. I have helped dozens of people write college and graduate school essays that resulted in their successful admission to top tier institutions. I also worked at the Writing Center as a tutor at the Harvard Graduate School of Education (2010-2012). I am looking to tutor a few hours a week (at most 15 for now). I have taught middle school as well, and graduate level courses in education. I have tutored with various organizations: Sylvan Learning Center in White Plains, NY (2001-2002) and an SAT Prep organization in Houston (1996-1997). At Sylvan I tutored one on one and in groups of 3, and worked about 10 hours a week. In Houston I tutored about 8 hours a week. I have worked with or taught elementary aged children through senior citizens. I have experience working with youth from all social classes and races. I taught at Choate Rosemary Hall in a summer program in 2000 and at the Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth summer program in 2001. Though my background is in the humanities I loved and excelled in math in high school. I have a passion for learning from and with young people. For example, I took my students on a field trip to Harvard last year where they conducted a training on the peer mediation program I run. I enjoy helping students overcome mental blocks to see their true potential and intelligence.
