I'm a recent English PhD (2015) Rice University with an M.A. in English from Rutgers University, where I also received my B.A. in English and Economics.
Experience
As an experienced writing and literature teacher, copyeditor, and proofreader. I approach helping students with their papers and writing assignments from three helpful perspectives. For one, I know the expectations of a teacher because I've administered and graded many assignments. Secondly, as a graduate student, I know that writing can be extremely challenging, so I'm sympathetic to problems with writing--from just getting words on a page to thesis writing to finessing word choice. Finally, I've worked as a professional editor and have cultivated an eye for grammar and style. I combine these perspectives and skill sets to help students strengthen their reading and writing abilities and get better grades. I have 5 years experience tutoring anything writing- and reading-related at Writing Centers, for a contract company, and independently. I've also taught numerous Composition courses (upper level and remedial) at Rutgers University, Lonestar College, and Essex County College. Currently I'm teaching an introductory English literature course at Rice University. I worked as an Assistant Editor in commercial publishing and Editorial Fellow for an academic journal.
