Hobbies

The prime role of education is to equip the average citizen with a ‘suitcase’ of knowledge and skills. The acquisition of such knowledge and skills must be met with an equal effort towards nurturing the student—effective teaching assumes that a persistent effort to achieve comes from the heart and not the head. I believe that with this approach in mind, I will use my position as a teacher to provide personalized encouragement and support. Within this framework, my assessment of learning will consider individual growth as well as absolute academic and behavioral achievement. I view the teaching profession as an opportunity to exact my desire to personally connect with and encourage all students and to provide a climate that links effort with achievement. I believe that without this nutritive aspect of teaching, learning and individual talents can be lost. Uncontestable reasons for a career in teaching include: 1) Watching and charting student potential, growth, and success concerning academic content, and social and behavioral skills; 2) enthusiasm for academic content matter; 3) fostering the development of a culturally and technically skilled citizen; 4) creating lifelong readers of value, meaning, and discernment; and 5) developing and training lifelong learners. In addition to these governing aims of teaching, I believe that an educator has the ability and opportunity to nurture and shape a student’s mind and core values. The beauty of this dynamic is that the teacher also becomes the student—from which new values, ideas, and moments of struggle and growth can be shared. My reasons for wanting to teach are in alignment with my own governing life goals.
