Experience
Hello, I'm Tara. I received my Bachelor of Science degrees in Psychology and Biology from The College of William and Mary. While at William and Mary, I was a tutor for elementary school students. After graduation, I continued tutoring. I have tutored home schooled children, really young children getting ahead in their scholastic skills, and hyperactive children. My tutoring style is a combination of an effective and serious approach with a twist of fun mixed in. I believe in reinforcing the students with positive feedback and giving them the skills to empower themselves. I change my style of tutoring to meet the needs of each student. Each student is unique, including in how they learn. For example, they may be an auditory, a kinesthetic, or a visual learner, and I adapt my teaching style to accommodate them. When I first meet a student, I engage them in a short goal-setting activity to inspire them to bring together the aspirations they have in life with the schoolwork we will be working on. I am able to tutor students in science, math, English, reading, writing, and prepping for the SAT and ACT tests. In my spare time, I enjoy running, coaching, reading, and practicing yoga.
