Experience
Public education runs in my family so its ideas and values have been a major part of my development. I tutor chemistry, which students should get to learn at the college level in a way they develop a relationship with a science that dictates life. A community college should encourage experimentation with a chemistry curriculum and keep the subject relevant to students. I enjoy the Socratic approach - learning by asking questions during class and using responses to bolster understanding and point out what needs more explanation. An understanding of concepts, not just choosing the right answers, is the goal of my instruction. When teaching, I think asking "why" is so important while writing is an important component as well. Non-traditional learning methods help bring a fresh perspective.I appreciate and understand the benefits of a well-rounded education. My desire is to be part of what can alter the outcome of society. Teaching and advocacy has that power. I give students a voice in academic choices, so they can express themselves, be creative, and learn material in the most relevant way. I have attended the University of Central Florida and Vanderbilt University and enjoy golf, poker, Fantasy Football, and college basketball.
