Education

JD, University of Texas, 2015, 3.85 GPA (4.0 scale) BA History, Rice University, 2010

Experience

I am a recent JD from the University of Texas and received my BA in History from Rice in 2010. I have five years of tutoring experience, including full time for two years before starting law school. No two students are the same, and figuring out how to work with young minds to teach them how to reach their own potential drives me to get back into the tutoring business full time. I get results because I know how to adjust to the student and to work with him or her. Half of tutoring comes in the preparation for each lesson, and I re-teach myself material for every lesson (no matter how well I know it) so as to make sure I have multiple different ways to teach it and so that I can remember what it's like to be learning it for the first time. I customize my style to the student, and thus I customize each lesson likewise. I have tutored most non-AP level high school subjects, as well as AP history courses. I have significant experience tutoring algebra I and II, as well as writing and grammar. I've also tutored SAT, ACT, and PSAT students, as well as ran a GED course for a for-profit college. I also have experience tutoring the LSAT, having scored a 172 myself. My hourly rate is negotiable depending on (i) location, (ii) frequency of the meetings, (iii) length of the meetings, (iv) time of day [weekdays before 2pm will be discounted], and (v) any special circumstances. The printed rate is for middle school and high school courses, as well as ACT, GED, PSAT, and SAT tutoring. I have a $15/hr surcharge for LSAT tutoring due to the significant additional prep work that goes into each LSAT lesson. I have a $20/hr surcharge for first-year law school courses. Other courses, such as collegiate courses, may vary. ***CANCELLATION POLICY: (Sorry if this sounds harsh, but I've had students no-show and need to make sure this is in writing; I understand things come up, and I am flexible so long as you give me as much notice as you can and are in contact with me.) Any lesson can be cancelled up to 24 hours ahead of time with no penalty. Cancellations due to illness permitted penalty-free up to two hours ahead of time. Any other reason, I will accept without penalty up to three hours before time the first time only. After that, I will bill one hour. Cancellations with less than two hours notice will be billed as a full lesson. Failure to show up to a lesson without explanation will be billed as a full lesson.***
